Student Entitlement

Every student from year 7 to 13 is entitled to high quality career education and guidance as part of their overall education, which ensures that students are provided with independent careers guidance, which enables them to:

  • Find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point
  • Hear from a range of providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through pathways events, assemblies, group discussions and taster events
  • Understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses
  • Receive one-to-one impartial careers guidance from a level 6 qualified careers advisor.

Our Careers Programme: Provider Access Legislation 

In January 2023, the updated provider access legislation (PAL) came into effect. It specifies schools must provide at least six encounters with approved providers of apprenticeships and technical education for all their students:

  • Two encounters for pupils during the ‘first key phase’ (year 8 or 9) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend
  • Two encounters for pupils during the ‘second key phase’ (year 10 or 11) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend
  • Two encounters for pupils during the ‘third key phase’ (year 12 or 13) that are mandatory for the school to put on but optional for pupils to attend

The new legislation aims to help learners understand and apply for both apprenticeships and a broad range of technical education options including T-Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications.

The careers programme is planned, for all students in Years 7-13. In line with government statutory guidance and with the aim of fully meeting the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks and the Six Learning of the CDI Framework.  It is a progressive programme of activities which supports students in choosing 14-19 pathways that suits their interests and abilities and helps them to follow a careers path and sustain employability throughout their working lives.

Mrs Lee, our Careers leader is qualified to Level 6 in Careers Guidance and Development and follows the CDI code of Ethics.

Mrs Lee ensures that careers education, information, advice and guidance is:

  • Presented in an impartial manner
  • Includes information on the full range of education or training options, including apprenticeships and other vocational pathways
  • Guidance give aims to promote the best interests of the students to whom it is given

Link Governor for Careers: Matthew Dalton 

Matthew Dalton is the Governor with responsibility for Careers. He provides strategic oversight to ensure that the school delivers a high-quality, impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) programme that meets statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planned and Well-Sequenced Programme: Ensures the careers programme is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Informed Choices: Supports pupils to make well-informed decisions about education, training, and employment.
  • Equality and Aspiration: Promotes equal opportunities and raises aspirations for all learners, including disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Reviews the impact of the careers programme through student feedback, destination data, and engagement with employers and further education providers.
  • Reporting: Provides regular updates to the governing body to support continuous improvement and strong outcomes for all students.

Partnerships with External Providers and Stakeholders

By working in partnership with external agencies, we will provide accurate and focused careers information, advice and guidance tailored to individual needs to enable young people to make informed choices about their future career routes.

Work Experience

Work experience is an important part of our careers programme. It enables students to develop an understanding of the workplace, explore areas of career interest and develop valuable employability skills.


Year 10 Work Experience


Year 10 students are given the opportunity to take part in meaningful work experience during the summer term. Students are encouraged to research and arrange a placement that reflects their interests, skills and future aspirations, with support from their parent or carer.


The school provides guidance and resources to help students identify suitable opportunities and understand how to approach employers. However, students and their parents or carers are responsible for securing a placement, and the school does not guarantee or arrange individual placements.


All proposed placements are subject to appropriate checks and safeguarding, health and safety and accessibility arrangements. Students receive preparation before their placement and are given opportunities to reflect on their experiences afterwards.
Where a student is unable to secure a suitable placement, the school will provide appropriate alternative work-related learning opportunities.


We recognise that students may require additional support or reasonable adjustments to access work experience. We work with students, parents/carers and relevant staff to help ensure that all students can benefit from meaningful workplace learning.

Labour Market Information (LMI) is the name for facts and figures about jobs and employment. The information is used to give an overall picture of the past, present and future of work. The labour market is the term used to describe the amount of people working and looking for work, and the amount of jobs.

Careerometer

The Careerometer can be used to explore and compare key information about occupations, help you learn about different occupations and identify potential careers. It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as description of the occupation.

Simply click on the dotted square and type in the title of the job you are interested in. The widget will then provide a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another occupation and compare them. You can also select ‘Display the UK average’ and compare the information with the occupation chosen

St. Anne's Destinations

Destinations of Our Students

At St Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls, we support every student to make informed decisions about their next steps and to progress to a suitable and sustained destination after Year 11.


Our careers programme provides students with opportunities to explore the full range of post-16 pathways, including:

•Sixth form and further education colleges
•Technical and vocational education and training
•Apprenticeships
•T Levels and other technical qualifications
•Supported internships and specialist provision, where appropriate
•Employment and other suitable pathways

Tracking and Evaluating Destinations

The school collects and analyses information about students’ intended and actual destinations. This information helps us to:

•Monitor students’ progression after Year 11.
•Identify students who may require additional careers information, advice and guidance.
•Support students who do not yet have a clear intended destination.
•Inform individual careers guidance and transition support.
•Evaluate the impact of our careers programme and identify areas for further development.
•Inform future careers programme planning and provision.

During Year 11, students are supported to consider their post-16 options and are asked to provide information about their intended destinations, applications and offers where appropriate. This information is used to identify students who may need additional support with decision-making, applications or transition.


Students receive individual careers guidance from Mrs Julie Lee, Careers Leader and Careers Adviser, who holds a Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance. Additional support is provided where required, including for students with SEND and those who may be at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training).


We recognise that there is no single destination that is right for every student. An appropriate next step will depend on each student's individual circumstances, including their attainment, strengths, interests, skills, aspirations and career goals. Students are therefore encouraged to explore a range of suitable options before making their decisions.

Local Authority Destinations Data

The school works with the Local Authority and uses destination information as part of its ongoing evaluation of careers provision.


The Enfield Local Authority Destinations Activity Survey Report 2023–24 provides information about the destinations of our Year 11 students following Key Stage 4.


The report recorded that 100% of St Anne’s Year 11 students were recorded as progressing to a further education or other education/training placement on leaving Key Stage 4.


This information contributes to our evaluation of the careers programme and helps us identify priorities for further development and support.

Destination information is reviewed annually and is used alongside student feedback, careers guidance records, participation in careers activities, employer and provider feedback and other evaluation evidence to help us continually improve our careers programme.

Send & Inclusion/SEND and Careers


At St Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls, we are committed to ensuring that every student, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), has access to an ambitious, inclusive and personalised careers programme.


We recognise that students may require different types of support to explore their interests, develop their skills and make informed decisions about their future.


Our careers provision for students with SEND includes:


•Personalised careers guidance: Individual support to help students identify their strengths, interests, aspirations and suitable future pathways.
•Support with transitions: Guidance to help students prepare for their next steps after Year 11, including further education, sixth form, technical and vocational courses, apprenticeships, supported internships and employment where appropriate.
•Reasonable adjustments: Adaptations and additional support to help students participate fully in careers lessons, employer encounters, careers events and workplace learning.
•Collaborative support: Working with the SENDCo, pastoral staff, parents/carers and relevant professionals to ensure that careers advice reflects each student’s individual needs and aspirations.
•Work experience support: Consideration of accessibility, reasonable adjustments and alternative opportunities where required.
 

We have high expectations for all our students and aim to ensure that every young person is supported to recognise their potential and progress towards a positive and suitable destination.
